Part of a worldwide network, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni promotes French language and culture and encourages cross-cultural collaborations. Founded in 1910, and based in South Kensington in London, it comprises a Language Centre, a Cultural Centre, Ciné Lumière, a cinema with two screens, and a multi-media library, La Médiathèque.
La Médiathèque is one of the largest free access French libraries in the UK with extensive collections in French and about France, for all ages and language levels.
- Managing the 0-6 years old section: Management, development and promotion of the collection both physical and digital, events programming (storytelling, spoken reading, game workshops, meet-the-author events etc.) for children of all ages and their parents
- Managing the video game and VR section: management, development and promotion of the video game and app collections for both a child and adult audience, management of the IT resources which help run these programmes, programming and running events (workshops, meet-the-creator, exhibitions, performances etc.) using these resources with both an adult and child-focused public in mind.
- Co-ordinating and developing school programmes and activities both at and outside the Institute.
- Library desk duty and communal tasks: Customer service in the Children’s and Adult libraries, working with school groups, running cultural activities, helping with the library inventory and general organisation of the collections
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
- Library science, publishing, cultural events organisation
SKILLS
- A good knowledge of children’s literature, of video games editing and some knowledge of virtual reality editing. Technical knowledge of using and facilitating video games
Experience of organising and managing cultural events is very much desirable - IT skills: fluent use of Office programmes, fluent use of the internet, use of library management software is desirable.
- Methodical, organised, ability to anticipate problems and be accountable, be creative, the ability to work alone but also work in a team.
- Good working relationship with the general public, particularly children and teenagers.
- A good communicator.

Fixed-term maternity cover: 9 months, 35 hours/week, from Tuesday to Saturday
Monthly gross salary: £2,205
