Chevalier is inspired by the incredible story of composer Joseph Bologne, made Chevalier de Saint-Georges by Marie-Antoinette. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a tour de force performance) rises to improbable heights in XVIIIth century French society as a prodigy violinist and composer in the wake of the French Revolution.
